Why visit the Grotte de Villars? A natural jewel shaped by time

This is one of the largest underground networks in Périgord, with almost 13 km of galleries explored.
Here you can admire exceptional geological sculptures: fine stalactites, majestic stalagmites, translucent draperies, calcite flows, pillars in eccentric formations... a naturally magical setting.

Living testimony to prehistory

The Grotte de Villars is the only cave in the Périgord to combine original cave paintings with natural concretions.
Discovered in the 1950s, these works were produced between 17,000 and 20,000 years ago and depict horses, bison, deer and even a man facing a bison - rare scenes in cave art.
Some paintings, such as the famous horse rotunda, are protected by a thin layer of calcite, giving them a unique bluish hue.

An immersive, modern experience

The 45-minute guided tour takes you through some evocative names: Salle des Bénitiers
As well as the mineral spectacle, an innovative sound and light show takes you 200,000 years back in time, with an immersive visual and sound experience.
A 20-minute educational video completes the visit, explaining the formation of the cave, scientific research and prehistoric art.

Open-air discovery for young and old

The Jardin de Cro-Magnon, a 700-metre-long fun trail, is a great way to extend the experience, with reconstructions, quizzes, botanical panels, interactive games, rock painting workshops and rocket-propelled grenades.
The site also offers free parking, a play area, snack bar, shaded terrace and picnic areas, ideal for a family outing.
